Police make new finds in search for Bradford women


Officers discover suspected body parts at river Aire West Yorkshire 200 yards from site of Tuesday′s find

Forensic examinations being conducted on what could be human body parts discovered at river by underwater police searching for two missing women who were working as prostitutes Bradford.

West Yorkshire police’s underwater search unit made the find at the river Aire Shipley, 200 yards from where the remains Suzanne Blamires, 36, were discovered Tuesday.

The remains being examined, but police say it too early formally identify them. It believed this process could take several days.

Officers working case are trying trace Shelley Armitage and Susan Rushworth, who, like Blamires, went missing in Bradford.

Blamires was last seen Friday. Armitage, 31, has been missing since Monday 26 April. Rushworth, 43, disappeared 22 June last year.

Stephen Griffiths, 40, a criminology student from city, has been charged with murders three women.

He is accused killing Blamires between 20 25 May, Rushworth between June 22 2009 25 May this year, Armitage between 25 April 25 May this year.

When psychology graduate appeared at Bradford magistrates court yesterday, he identified himself as “the crossbow cannibal” .

He was arrested on Monday at his home on outskirts of Bradford’s red-light district.

Police, forensic officers specially trained dogs have been excavating along Thornton Road, just few hundred yards from Griffiths′ flat, at other sites across Bradford.

Griffiths will appear before Bradford crown court again 7 June, via video link from Wakefield prison.

A police spokesman said: “At around midday today, officers from West Yorkshire police’s underwater search unit recovered from river Aire what believed to human remains.

“The remains were found about 200 yards where the remains Suzanne Blamires were found Tuesday.

“The remains will now be forensically examined identify them, at this stage it too early speculate who remains belong to.”
