Not long after Rooney’s outburst, fan wearing an England replica kit got past security around the dressing rooms shouted abuse at Beckham, who is South Africa as non‑playing member Fabio Capello’s staff. The supporter was eventually dragged away stewards.
David Beckham has played down the confrontation, but Fifa says World Cup stadium security will be tightened. Ten minutes earlier, Princes William Harry were there talking to the players. Beckham claims the fan casually walked in, said something derogatory to him walked out again. There was no scuffle or aggression.
Fifa spokesman Nicolas Maingot says that “security will tightened so this never happens again.”
